Be Willing to Take One Step at a Time

Even when you embrace change, you cannot gulp the whole thing down at once. Think of the old adage about eating an elephant one bite at a time. You have the greatest likelihood of sailing through significant upheaval when you break down the overwhelming big picture into small, disgestible units.

Before you allow impending change to swallow you, identify the step directly in front of your face. What action can you take right now? What phone call or conversation can you initiate? What single issue can you address?

Speculating far into the future – fretting over what might happen as a result of this or a consequence of that — is generally counterproductive and can leave you stressed and depleted.

Even the inexplicable events some call miracles often unfold in easily attainable steps. Remain in the present. One small step taken today will lead you to the next small step, and so on and so on, until you realize you have broken through to a new and notable horizon.
