meet my new sister blog: just say yes now!

April 4, 2009 by rachel

After a gestation period of way more than 9 months, my second blog, Just Say Yes Now!, has emerged. Bear with us as we get into the new rhythms that accompany a family with a newborn as well as a very active one-year-old. The new blog is a bit more directed to women – though all are welcome.  I’m seeing it as more of a community effort — and want to integrate more of your ideas, your comments, your art, […]

woman! what are you waiting for? come see me in springfield, massachusetts march 26

March 18, 2009 by rachel

I’ll be making a personal appearance at Tower Square in Springfield, Massachusetts, on Thursday, March 26, kicking things up with my “Woman! What Are You Waiting For?” presentation. The event is sponsored by “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, a series of The Republican, (Springfield’s newspaper, not a political statement), with significant support by Nuvo Bank of Springfield. The collaboration was born November 2008, in sunny Cozumel, Mexico, and took off from there. You can read a bit more about the […]

your three words for today: question. push. empower.

November 6, 2008 by rachel

Today feels newer, bigger, and more significant than just one word! Here’s a trio, all taken from my book, 365 Words of Well-Being for Women (McGraw-Hill softcover version, $12.95) / Words of Wisdom for Women (Barnes & Noble hardcover version $7.98). It’s for the feminine in us all, the masculine in us all, and every stripe and hue and gradation in between. Don’t let a few tiny pronouns get in your way of reclaiming your personal power and moving into […]

apostrophe catastrophe – and it’s getting possessively(sic) worse!

September 1, 2008 by rachel

Forgive me for turning my attention away from the larger issues of the day, but as a writer, I can no longer avert my gaze! Pity the poor apostrophe, who seems doomed to live an existence of misuse, misalignment, misappropriation, and a torturous life of being utterly misunderstood. It’s as though it’s one minute before midnight — and an egg sac the size of the Milky Way has suddenly burst and spewed countless numbers of these once-sparse punctuation marks in […]

what there is to love about a man: arms

May 31, 2008 by rachel

(Cut me some slack here: It’s Springtime!) Yes! to the right to bare arms. Sunned and weathered arms, farm arms, hot and spicy arms swaying to a Latin beat. Arms presented in tank tops and muscle shirts and short-cropped T-shirts with the sleeves ripped off. Arms offered before crossing the street or stepping off the ladder and onto the roof. Arms that lightly brush up against us on the bus and double-wrap around us as we sleep. Biceps lifting boxes, […]

national poetry month: gift from ed june 29, 2003

April 2, 2008 by rachel

gift from Ed june 29, 2003 by rachel snyder Today Ed gave me the brainlash book bought it for a dollar outside the used book store, in the bin. Took it to the bakery where I get bread for 25 cents and he usually gets coffee, lots of sugar, for free. Had them hold it for me by name. The man can’t pull it together to comb or wash his hair or locate a relatively clean shirt. His mind is […]

your word of the day: endure

April 2, 2008 by rachel

Go through the darkness and come out the other side. When you think I can’t stand another minute of this, know that you can. When you think I won’t make it through another day, know that you will. When you can’t take another moment of the pain and the fear and the feelings of hopelessness, take another moment anyway. Endure the heartache and come out heartstrong. Endure the tremors and the grief and the isolation and come out sturdy and […]

your word of the day: gratitude

March 27, 2008 by rachel

This word is for all of us, with a special wink and a nod to the generous soul who reminded me in a very tangible way, that it’s not only what we do in the world that has value. It’s also simply and purely who we are and what example we offer up. Gratitude is several steps beyond remembering to say “Thank you.” More than just a way of being polite, it’s a way of moving through your life. The […]

someone at barnes&noble may just be my new best friend

March 24, 2008 by rachel

My world as a writer turned upside down today. I visited one of the last remaining independent bookstores in the English-speaking world, to do what writers do in between digging out tiny slivers of chocolate from beneath the space bar on their computer keyboards and sharpening pencils just in case a young person shows up at the door and politely asks, “Excuse me, could you show me what is a pencil?” That, of course, is to visit the bookstore and […]

“…in defiance of self- consciousness…big, bold, and outright.”

"(Rachel) practices a doctrine of fearlessness. A self-taught poet, she is mesmerized by the way words seem to take on a life of their own (and) ...she strives to “be the instrument” for expression. Her willingness to acknowledge and to submit to the power of language comes across in the litany-like form of her long, intentionally inspirational poems, in the way she returns to such phrases as “Forgive me” (“Prayer for Radical Forgiveness”), “It’s that easy,” or “I will” (“Vow for the Unbound”). Written in defiance of self-consciousness, Snyder’s prayerful poems were big, bold, and outright. " Anne Lovering Rounds for Bryant Park Blog

“…daily pause for reflection…”

"I've stumbled on your site, with delight. Rarely do works resonate with me, and when they do, they DO! :) I absolutely love your writings and have posted a few in my house. They honestly seem to mirror much of my own growth and give me daily pause for reflection in the areas I need working on, the most." Cyma Shapiro ~ Mothering in the Middle/Midlife Mothers

“…transcendent…heartfelt…powerful…”

"Rachel's poetry is transcendent, and her performance at Bryant Park in NY was heartfelt and powerful. She really engaged the audience. In fact, I was so riveted, that I forgot to take any photos of the event, as I had planned!" J.C., Harlem NY

“…deserving of a larger stage to perform her magic.”

"(Rachel's) poetry celebrates love, compassion and positive self-examination. She joyfully shares the many lessons she has learned from leading a fascinating and unorthodox life... This listener walked away from her Bryant Park (NYC) reading spiritually re-charged and grateful. Rachel is deserving of a larger stage to perform her magic. " G.S., NY NY
