Weeping Angel of Amiens

prayer of the children by three dog night (video 3:22)

December 22, 2012 by rachel

Thank you, Julie, for pointing me toward this powerful tribute. The featured image on the homepage grid is a 17th-century sculpture on a tomb in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Amiens, France. The Weeping Angel (L’Ange de Pleureur), by Nicholas Blasset, was popularized on postcards during WWII and often carried by British soldiers.

when only wings remain

December 9, 2012 by rachel

The energies are settling, so (not surprisingly), today’s poem presented itself in rhyming form after being inspired by this backyard photo. Tomorrow, I’ll tell you a bit more about what I have been up to for five weeks. Stay true, stay clear, my precious friend. Pray tell! What seer doth divine In soggy tea leaves, curdled wine These ancient rhythms pulse, now bore In loosening of the golden cord ~ A harlot, a jackass, a tune unsounded The tale of […]

reminding you now and forever: you are the river of love’s tenderness (video 4:29)

September 14, 2012 by rachel

Some lovely Words Divinely Wrought updates are waiting in the wings… …though I am right now giving my attention to local happenings. I will post the updates when I can focus on them as they deserve. In the meantime, please take four minutes and 29 seconds to visit (or revisit) this video rendition of my poem, “you are the river of love’s tenderness.” Just in case you forgot or have entertained even a moment of doubt. When you reach out […]

september energy forecast from lee harris (video 15:56)

September 6, 2012 by rachel

While I finish up the latest update on the Words Divinely Wrought Global Poetry-Share, here’s a comforting dose of balance, calm, and wisdom from Lee Harris. I love his no-nonsense, quiet, intelligent way of speaking about the larger energies that are now affecting everyone, albeit in different ways. Definitely worth investing 15+ minutes of your day or night; then we’ll return to the poetry plantings now transpiring around the globe. (Archived posts may be found toward the bottom of the […]

and now i am left with nothing but the truth

June 14, 2012 by rachel

and now i am left with nothing but the truth that my only constant has been a willingness to stand naked and alone my sole virtue laid bare on life’s platter, borne of a lingering sense that there is more to this holy dance than the steady chock of the metronome my own beating heart, frangible though it may be has echoed beyond time in a rapturous calypso, flooding my ears with birdsong melody and the night cry of the […]

40,000 norwegians respond with love (video; 2:37)

April 27, 2012 by rachel

In Oslo and other sites around Norway, 40,000 people gathered with folksinger Lillebjørn Nilsen and others to raise their voices in love. Standing in the rain, together they sang the 1970s-era peace song, Children of the Rainbow, which had been described as “Marxist propaganda” by a man now on trial for murdering 77 Norwegians, mostly teenagers, last July. According to UK-based Reuters/Guardian, the crowd chose the song because it “extols the type of multicultural society (the accused) has said he […]

know that you are loved, no matter how large your ears may be (video 2:30)

March 19, 2012 by rachel

If you have ever felt unloved, judged, bullied, forsaken, or abandoned, it’s safe now to let it go and allow yourself to partake of a greater Love. No need to pin the sentiment on any particular person living here or beyond. The embrace might emanate from nature, from the animal kingdom, from the All-There-Is, the Goddess, Quan Yin, Mother Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, or from a distant star you remember ever so faintly yet so very well. If you prefer, […]

now tenderly rendered in video: you are the river of love’s tenderness (4:29)

February 29, 2012 by rachel

If you had the pleasure of viewing the video presentation of my piece, “this fragile web: why every moment matters,” you know the skill and grace with which Jeff T (MerhlinsPlace) weaves deeply felt words, images, and music. Jeff and I have collaborated once again, bringing a new dimension to my poetry, “you are the river of love’s tenderness,” which appears in text form in the post directly below this one. Jeff’s ability to elevate my healing journey of personal […]

you are the river of love’s tenderness

February 23, 2012 by rachel

I began this post days ago — telling you of a recent fall that slammed my sacrum into the floor and set me on a healing journey (Again?!?!?!) to recalibrate and realign deeply entrenched physical, emotional, and spiritual trauma patterns I took on in a car crash nine years ago this month. Telling you the facts of the story was just not working; when this piece emerged in its stead, I was finally able to exhale. When I later stumbled […]

prayer for radical patience

October 28, 2011 by rachel

For every moment I have waited, Let me wait ten thousand moments more! Let me delight in the glory of the waiting And the exquisite expectancy it tenders. For every instance I knew the now was near Yet for reasons untold it was not mine to receive, Let me know that divinity still presides over a vast and loving universe And that patience rides a chariot whose name is endless joy. May trust and courage override the niggling fears that […]

have you forgotten you are creation’s favorite lover?

October 1, 2011 by rachel

As some of you know, I am never sure when rhyming poetry will show up, though it often brings with it a consolidating, smoothing energy after periods of static, confusion, or upheaval. Since I consider my poetic work to be divinely inspired, I simply let the words lead the way — and today, they want to rhyme! If this speaks to you, you may also enjoy the video featuring my poem, “What If An Angel Took Hold Of Your Hand?” […]

thank you, peoplepassion, for making a video of my poem, ‘what if an angel took hold of your hand?’

August 12, 2011 by rachel

Finally, some sensitive and talented folks created a youtube video featuring one of my poems, and I am thrilled! If you did not see “what if an angel took hold of your hand?” when I posted it on January 27, 2011, you can find it here. The full text is also included at the youtube site. The peoplepassion channel is definitely worth a visit, as well; they have produced a powerful series of videos to heighten awareness of the drought […]

Taking Care of Myself, by Jeanne Treadway, a phenomenally gifted Soul. See more of her paintings, sculptures, and "Cajitas Piadosas" - little devotional boxes that gather found objects, bits of this and that, prayers, and deep sacred soulfulness in Altoid tins, cigar boxes, suitcases and other containers. It is only a matter of moments before Jeanne Treadway's passionate art is discovered and her notoriety skyrockets.

warrior love vow, et cetera

July 4, 2011 by rachel

This seems a curious post after being away for a while, but it would not be denied. No, I have not met the outer masculine being to whom these words may be directed, and as usual, it may be me communicating with other beloved parts of myself. (Or perhaps this poetic drumbeat will call him in, eh?) As well, wildland fire season is a-roar here in the American Southwest, raindrops are few and far between, and I admit having watched […]

let it go: now the barren gives way to the blossom

May 1, 2011 by rachel

now the barren gives way to the blossom if you but untie the limp strings of your torn and tender heart and let it go the mountainous terrain of the past heaves and crumbles, and in its stead, soft valleys arise in a series of gently rolling caresses, if you but sink to your knees and assume the holy posture of acceptance and let it go the moment you allow yourself to be fully fed, you acknowledge the depth of […]

gorgeous video of hafiz poem: some fill with each good rain (1:33)

April 30, 2011 by rachel

Obviously, I have not been inspired to post anything new for awhile — although the Universe within and without have certainly been afoot (or is that “afeet”?) So that you don’t feel forgotten, I offer up this short-but-oh-so-sweet video of a poem by Persian poet and Sufi mystic Hafiz, uploaded by Millionofus. Be sure to turn your sound up; it takes a bit of time before the Yanni music kicks in. Joyous May arrival and Happy Beltane to you!

can you remember what you chose to forget?

March 18, 2011 by rachel

For reasons that seem unimportant now, The memory of limitless existence slipped my mind Loosened from the landscape surrounding my being And lodged itself in a deep cave of forgetting Ah Yes, now I remember… The agreements drawn up and codified, Shuttled from lifetime to lifetime on trains endlessly circling the roundhouse Came up for review, And I marked one, then another, with the time/date stamp of The Now Declaring them null and void, and afire with the passion of […]

when love challenges you

February 15, 2011 by rachel

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I currently have a concept — Be Open to Love: Words of Well-Being to Awaken Your Heart — going through a market testing process. Here’s an excerpt that seems to reflect the energy of the week: time will tell whether this material eventually makes its way into full-fledged bookdom. (No hearts or flowers in this art: the painting is known as “Ecstasy” or “Frenzy of Exultations,” and seemed a fitting accompaniment to the […]

hold on, let go: finding balance in an upheaved world

January 25, 2011 by rachel

How does one speak of the nature of time? Of the unriddled riddle, the unmetered rhyme? What lies now upon us with the greatest profusion Brings great knowing to some and to others, confusion. You beseech as you wonder, you ask without pause What are the rules, you implore! Where, the laws? Is there nothing but nothing that one can rely on? Oh yes, to be sure, but even more new to try on! You see it yourself, what once […]

The Wounded Angel by Hugo Simberg

in the silent moment, all begins and nothing ends

January 9, 2011 by rachel

This verse made its way out after President Obama announced there would be a moment of silence for the victims of the Arizona shooting. A moment of silence: it honors, is reverent Yet perhaps now, today, ever-so-slightly irrelevant In the silence is wisdom, reflection, and prayer Yet also ambivalence (shrug shoulders) who cares? A moment so brief and then back to distraction A fleeting outpouring then default contraction – The pain may be numbed, the sorrow diminished Feelings reined in […]

choose clear, choose love: more traditional rhyming verse for the new year

December 31, 2010 by rachel

I am regularly delighted (though not totally surprised any more) when this traditional rhyming verse form insists on making itself known. The mood always leads me back to artists of the Pre-Raphaelite period, but since I am no student of poetry, I am not quite sure what else to call it. This one seems kin to the 2011 Prayer for Wholeness (below). The past now sealed, it bears no weight On future’s yield nor journey’s fate For what once was […]

divine union of the sacred masculine and feminine: making love to god

November 23, 2010 by rachel

The experience of divine, ecstatic union within each of us has long captivated me. Now, this healing at individual, spiritual, emotional, and social/cultural levels, seems to carry more import than ever before. I’m going to offer up once again my unpublished manuscript, “Making Love to God,” for those who may now be especially drawn to this material. The eight-part work has its own Category in the Archives link in the right-hand sidebar, if you wish to jump ahead. You […]

one more day: unremitting faith for the fearless

October 26, 2010 by rachel

one more day and when it felt as though love had left the room there was nowhere to turn but within, so I fell in love all over again with the essence of god that is me and there found peace enough for one more day and when every cupboard was bare, the only nourishment to be found grew in the lush garden of my soul, and when I had partaken of the juices of my own heartblossoms i was […]

October 15, 2010 by rachel

According to sound healer/teacher Deborah Van Dkye, who is heard here on her CD, Traveling the Sacred Sound Current, this ancient chant of exaltation “embodies the highest of frequencies which extend the grace and holy protection to the chanter…(and) sets up a resonance with Divine Love energies in whose presence lesser forces cannot remain.” summerrain7373 added the image and posted the video on youtube.

this battle has ended; prepare for love’s outpourings

September 26, 2010 by rachel

I love wandering through the archives of my blog and noting the unmistakable, recurring cycles of my journey. This piece appeared in late 2009, without a name to call its own. This time around, it seems ready to don the title words that I spoke at the tail end of a long and liberating bodywork session last week. Truly, earth and heaven are closer together now than they have ever been. this battle has ended your regrets and disappointments let […]

wear purple, my ass! reclaiming my personal manifesto of limitless liberation

September 2, 2010 by rachel

Still in true retrograde mode, here’s a revisit to an earlier emanation of exhilaration. (Yeah, that’s a boatload of alliteration, so sue me.) All given with a wink and a nod to my wise and magical friend from New Mexico, who knows how to kick my transformational butt when I need it most. If you woke up each morning and declared this vow three times in front of your mirror, with feeling, you could doubtless skip the coffee… i will: […]

August 18, 2010 by rachel

In every night and every dream The stage unfolds the selfsame scene: You sigh, you pause, you hold my gaze The clouds depart, then next the haze The elemental Act begins Stage left, the angels saunter in They stand, alight, with wings outspread They need speak naught, their holy bread And wine pour forth without a word A sweeter silence n’ere yet been heard Your eyes embrace my ready soul Your touch, your skin pure spirit gold Your fingers stroke […]

as if we can handle yet more wisdom of surrender, acceptance, and letting go…

August 17, 2010 by rachel

Sometimes it all feels and sounds like a broken record. An endless loop that intones repeatedly: Let go of what no longer serves you. Surrender more deeply than you surrendered last time. Accept what is; then surrender some more. And oh, by the way, remember to let go so you can let go of remembering. I certainly know the drill by now – and I’m guessing some of you do, too. But I admit I still find myself intermittently squawking: […]

“…in defiance of self- consciousness…big, bold, and outright.”

"(Rachel) practices a doctrine of fearlessness. A self-taught poet, she is mesmerized by the way words seem to take on a life of their own (and) ...she strives to “be the instrument” for expression. Her willingness to acknowledge and to submit to the power of language comes across in the litany-like form of her long, intentionally inspirational poems, in the way she returns to such phrases as “Forgive me” (“Prayer for Radical Forgiveness”), “It’s that easy,” or “I will” (“Vow for the Unbound”). Written in defiance of self-consciousness, Snyder’s prayerful poems were big, bold, and outright. " Anne Lovering Rounds for Bryant Park Blog

"I've stumbled on your site, with delight. Rarely do works resonate with me, and when they do, they DO! :) I absolutely love your writings and have posted a few in my house. They honestly seem to mirror much of my own growth and give me daily pause for reflection in the areas I need working on, the most." Cyma Shapiro ~ Mothering in the Middle/Midlife Mothers
